About the Riot

The Riot is a weekly newsletter about making things and getting paid for them. Every Tuesday, more than twenty thousand designers, writers, illustrators, makers and small-business owners get one honest, useful issue: real numbers, real templates and real stories from people doing the work.

Who writes it

The Riot was started by Maya Ortiz, a designer who spent six years undercharging clients before figuring out how to run a creative business that does not eat her whole life. Guest writers Jonah, Priya and Sam join her regularly.

How it is funded

The weekly issue is free, and always will be. Paying members get the deep dives, every template and the full archive, and they keep the whole thing independent. No ads, ever. One sponsor a month, only for products we use.
